Transporting wind turbines from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, India to Singapore

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Our customer required wind turbines weighing 2,294 tonnes with a volume of 5,900 m³ moving more than 2,000 nautical miles from Kakinada to Singapore. A thorough project analysis and route survey by CEVA’s specialists resulted in a bespoke solution.

Our customer's business challenges

In addition to moving the wind turbines by ocean we were also charged with providing road transport at departure and arrival.

The blades were carefully lifted by CEVA Projects specialists who worked out that a 2-3 tier stowage of the turbine blades would be a practical option to ensure their safe arrival at destination.

Telescopic hydraulic trailers were used for transportation of the blades and storage facilities were put in place where required.

Despite the oversized dimensions of the turbine which posed significant handling and safety problems our extensive planning would lead to successful delivery of the blades

TRANSFORMATION STORY

Our key actions to meet our customers' expectations

As the blades had to be lifted on/off the ship we had to devise a framework so that the blades could be carried two or three high.

We had to be able to create, build and dismantle the frames and organize telescopic hydraulic trailers suitable for transportation of the blades.

After undertaking a route survey a storage facility was also provided for use when and where required.

The results

Although the non-standard dimensions of the turbines posed significant handling problems - as well as creating safety issues - our extensive expertise meant we were able to cover all eventualities. Our surveys meant we were able to pre-prepare for all routes and road conditions.  We were able to create a frame so the blades could be stacked and moved 2/3 high. We were able to store all parts where required.
