CEVA Almajdouie Logistics completed a milestone project, transporting three Boeing 777 fuselages, six aircraft wings, and aircraft accessories across The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
CEVA Almajdouie Logistics is a joint venture in which CEVA Logistics holds a majority stake. This impressive 1,250-kilometer journey took place over 14 days, crossing through large cities and small villages, requiring meticulous planning, engineering and coordination with local authorities. CEVA showcased its expertise in out-of-gauge cargo logistics with each fuselage weighing approximately 120 tons and requiring specialized trailers for safe transport.
Moving the massive aircraft fuselages and components from Jeddah Airport to Riyadh Boulevard required extensive preparation and precise planning, culminating in a 14-day journey covering 1,250 kilometers across Saudi Arabia.
With cargo dimensions of approximately 70 x 6 x 8 meters, the CEVA Almajdouie Logistics team deployed specialized in-house owned equipment to ensure proper weight distribution and road safety. This included 78 axle lines of hydraulic trailers paired with 6x6 prime movers for the three fuselages, along with 15 special extendable low-bed trailers for the aircraft wings. Engineers meticulously calculated the trailer configurations to protect road infrastructure by distributing the aircraft weight evenly across multiple axles.
The complexity of moving intact fuselages through urban and rural areas required comprehensive route planning. The team strategically selected roads with minimal traffic to reduce costs, disruptions and enhance safety. This careful planning proved crucial, as the operation required the temporary shutdown of more than 120 power lines along the route to provide adequate clearance for the convoy.
The success of this operation is thanks to close collaboration with key stakeholders. The Ministry of Transportation and Saudi Electric provided essential support, enabling the team to navigate infrastructure challenges and ensure as much uninterrupted power service while maintaining safe passage for the oversized cargo. Their coordination proved instrumental in executing this complex logistics operation efficiently and safely.
The scale and complexity of the project showcases CEVA Almajdouie Logistics’ capabilities to manage complex out-of-gauge cargo logistics with local know-how and a global network of logistics expertise.
