Project Overview

CEVA’s customer requested a special transport of luxury fragrance machines and perfumes to be sent from Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, France to Hangzhou, China for use at an upscale, multi-sensory-themed event. With the fragrance machines and perfumes being a key focal point of the event, on-time and careful delivery was critical.

Our customer’s business challenges

Due to the project timeline and nature of the products themselves, it required multiple CEVA teams across different regions to ensure timely and successful delivery.

  • Strict delivery timeline
  • Complex cross-border shipment with mixed cargo and customs clearance challenges due to the dangerous goods product classification
  • Fragile, high-value cargo

The Solution

CEVA Logistics successfully managed the complex cross-border shipment between France and China through seamless coordination of its global teams. The cargo, departing from Saint-Ouen- l'Aumône, France, traveled over 9,000 kilometers by air to Hangzhou, China. The shipment comprised 11 fragrance machines, 35 perfume bottles and 10 containers of liquid perfume, with a total weight of 220 kilograms.

Despite its modest size, the project presented unique challenges: the combination of general cargo with dangerous goods and a stringent delivery timeline, requiring expedited customs clearance. To address these complexities, CEVA’s team in China collaborated closely with the CEVA team on the ground in France to optimize the documentation and shipping strategy. Their solution involved separating the liquid perfumes (classified as dangerous goods) from the general cargo and revising the export documentation accordingly. The team in China further streamlined the process by incorporating mandatory dangerous goods certificates and dangerous goods labels in Chinese. This strategic approach proved highly effective, with the shipment clearing both customs and dangerous goods inspection in just three days, meeting the customer’s delivery deadline.

The successful operation exemplifies the advantage of partnering with a global logistics provider like CEVA Logistics. Our worldwide network of local experts brings intimate knowledge of regional requirements and regulations, ensuring efficient cross-border transportation for even the most challenging cargo combinations.
