Oyu Tolgoi Copper

Remote location becomes one of the world’s largest producers of copper

PROJECT OVERVIEW

The Oyu Tolgoi Copper Mine is a combined open pit and underground mining project in Khanbodg sum in the southern Gobi Desert, Mongolia. This remote location is projected to be one of the world’s largest producers of copper which will be increasingly used in clean energy products such as wind and solar power generators and electric vehicles.

Our customer's business challenges

The operators required logistics and supply chain services to support the Engineering Procurement & Construction (EPC) of this project.  They also needed a continuous flow of containers, breakbulk and airfreight to the remote location in order to keep the project fully operational.

TRANSFORMATION STORY

Our key actions to meet our customers' expectations

Our project specialists put a full suite of international freight forwarding and supply chain solutions in place to cater for multiple global origins via China and Korea and onwards to the final destination in the Gobi Desert.

Cargo was consolidated at our hub at Perth in Western Australia with control on the eastern seaboard at Brisbane.

Utilizing our Control Tower in Brisbane, Australia we were then able to provide the customer with end-to end visibility of his products at all times through interfacing out Matrix MMS with the customer’s own JDE system.
