  • Markets opening for logistics providers due to changing regulations

ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA May 12, 2021 – CEVA Logistics and its joint venture partner MACCFA Freight Logistics PLC announced today the recent opening of a new less-than-container load (LCL) facility and container freight station (CFS) within the Modjo Dry Port located approximately 70 kilometers from the capital of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The facility will deliver new logistics services to Ethiopian and surrounding markets.

Facility located in strategic growth center

The new 1,000-square-meter facility has three loading docks and will be able to manage a variety of shipments and handling needs for clients. Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE) will provide forklift and porter services depending on the nature of the shipments. Tight security and monitoring of the Modjo Dry Port allow for the new CFS to have the highest levels of shipment security and personnel safety.

The Modjo Dry Port, which currently handles nearly 80 percent of Ethiopia’s imports, is an essential junction between trucking roadways and the Ethiopian Djibouti Railway (EDR). By using the EDR block train services, clients can easily access the Port of Djibouti, despite the distance of 750 kilometers.

The facility is prepared to handle growing demand and customer support in part due to the developments of the EDR block train services and recent Ethiopian government regulations allowing third-party logistics providers to process client export shipments. The main business focus will be on consolidating ocean export LCL services, marking a new era for private sector logistics companies.

Says Bruno Plantaz, managing director of India, Middle East and Africa, CEVA Logistics: “Recent expansions of nearby industrial parks, like the Hawassa Industrial Park and the Bole Lemi Industrial Park, also position the new facility to serve this growing sector in Ethiopia. There are tremendous opportunities for these producers to access broader markets through the Modjo Dry Port and the EDR. CEVA and MACCFA are standing by to deliver the responsive logistics services necessary for clients to grow their businesses, regionally and globally.”

Says Mr. Joerg Seifert, managing director, MACCFA Freight Logistics PLC: “With the additional power from CEVA Logistics and its vast reaching, global network of locations and logistics experts, the growth opportunities for our customers related to the new LCL warehouse and CFS within the Modjo Dry Port could be infinite.”
