We're growing our ocean freight business in the Nordics

CEVA is consistently strengthening its presence in the Nordics.
3/23/2023

The growth in trade with Asia and the US is opening up new possibilities and great business opportunities for the Nordics team.  In response to customer needs, CEVA will leverage the unique strength of the CMA CGM Group’s extensive logistics network in Europe and internationally and its comprehensive offering of maritime, rail services, and its experienced team of Ocean specialists.

The ocean freight market in the Nordic countries is growing steadily.  In the last 12 months alone, imports have increased by around 10 percent and exports by around 6 percent.  The most important destinations for Nordic exports are the US and China, with particularly strong growth in the automotive and industrial sectors.

In imports, China is the largest trading partner, with growth driven by significant changes in consumer behavior.  In China and the United States, CEVA is among the largest logistics operators and has a high position in serving these sectors.

The CEVA Nordics team has set specific goals for further growth in response to new customer needs, new challenges, and market trends.  The main direction for ocean freight services will be North America and Asia, focusing on serving the industrial sector.  CEVA is well-positioned in the Industrial sector both globally and regionally, CEVA Nordics have grown the Industrial sector during the last year and invested further in expertise and experienced professionals to serve the needs of the sector.

We also see an increased demand within Industrial Projects. Based on our knowledge and know-how in combination with proven processes, global network and track record, we build efficient and reliable solutions to meet the Industrial demands.  Nordics are positioned to further grow within the Industrial sector. Strong support will come from an extensive partner network of proven and experienced carriers specializing in LCL, FCL and Projects shipments.

Ocean Team ready for new tasks

The foundation for CEVA Nordics’ success and ambitious plans is our experienced Ocean team.  Our employees are skilled and proficient experts, and they know the ins and outs of doing business in the Nordics and global markets.  They know how to best prepare logistics solutions that match the expectations and needs of our customers. Last year CEVA strengthened and doubled Ocean’s team.

Recently, the Nordics Ocean division signed a long-term contract with one of its largest customers, thanks to a very well prepared offer and a guarantee of excellent service.

Maritime transport - global network, multiple opportunities

CEVA, a subsidiary of CMA CGM, is one of the largest global freight forwarders operating within a worldwide network.  It operates more than 600 routes connecting more than 60,000 port pairs and more than 37,000 LCL CFS pairs.

CEVA is rapidly developing a comprehensive ocean freight offering for Nordics customers, leveraging this unique capability, from Less-Than-Container Load (LCL), Full-Container Load (FCL) to IP&ES, as well as Break-bulk, Project Forwarding, partial and full charters.  Working closely with CMA CGM also gives us the opportunity to use ocean containers for rail freight. Committed to sustainable logistics solutions, last year CEVA introduced a new service in ocean freight - Green Ocean.

Developing rail connections between Asia and the Nordics

In response to customer demands for cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions, CEVA is also keen on the development of rail connections between the Nordics and Asia.  Services include LCL, FCL and block trains, with transit times between China and the Nordics of 30 to 35 days. Rail Control Tower Europe, located in Gdynia, Poland, is responsible for managing the rail connections for the Nordics region and the rest of Europe.  On a weekly basis, CEVA handles significant volumes of goods, both import and export.  In rail freight from Asia, mainly full containers, import shipments are handled predominantly, at 86 percent, with exports accounting for approximately 16 – 18 percent.  CEVA Nordics is already planning to launch more regular block trains, for industrial customers.  We will also develop rail connections on other Far Eastern and European routes.

MyCEVA - agile business and increased supply chain efficiency

CEVA in Nordics is committed to digitalization and new technologies that will ensure customers’ business runs smoothly while optimizing and increasing the efficiency of their supply chain.  A very good example is the MyCEVA platform.  It enables customers to quickly quote, easily book and ship FCL and LCL freight, and provides full control of their transport processes. Further benefits include real-time end-to-end transport monitoring and transport documentation management in one place. Additional options include Green Offer services, insurance and import customs brokerage.
