Process Engineer

Process Optimizations with a hands-on Approach and analytical Structures

"Showing initiative is truly appreciated. We're questioning a lot of things, sharing new ideas and can always give each other new input during team discussions."

Originally, Patrick, who works as a process engineer at CEVA Logistics, wanted to become a pilot because even as a child, he was a technophile. As an adult, he was looking for a slightly bigger cockpit, and now he's taking care of the intra-logistical optimization in our 850,000 sq ft warehouse in Großbeeren. "I optimize current work processes, visualize them and that makes it easy for employees to understand these processes," the Master of Business and Engineering explains his job.

Patrick starts his workday as most people do by reading his emails and compiling his to-do list. This is mostly followed by a catch-up with his teammates on current projects which are planned by the department in line with the scrum method. They also use Smartsheet to visualize the Kanban and Scrum boards online and make documentation straight-forward. "We all have our own streams, which are the areas we take care of as process engineers," Patrick explains; he is responsible for the Tower, meaning the Pick face.

The process engineer thoroughly enjoys his department which currently consists of three people, but will soon grow. "I enjoy going to work in the morning because I like the relaxed atmosphere within the team; we're all on a first-name basis and have a lot of fun together."

Connecting the technical and operational sides

"Communication is also really important for my job. You shouldn't be too much of an introvert, as you're constantly dealing with people," Patrick says after almost one year at the company. He also thinks to be successful in his job, it' is essential to be quick-witted and have a hands-on mentality. A particular challenge is connecting the technical and operational sides of the warehouse; but this can be overcome by a thorough induction into the topics. In retrospect, he admits: "In the beginning, I was surprised by how dynamic the company is, how quickly things change because new ideas are being tested all the time and old processes are being questioned." This is something he particularly enjoys now. "I enjoy working at CEVA Logistics because I really like familiarizing myself with new areas and tasks. I'm really passionate about continuously evaluating the current situation and developing new ideas for open questions."

Cross-team cooperation

Working autonomously while still having the team's support is important to Patrick, as he emphasizes: "Showing initiative is truly appreciated. We're questioning a lot of things, sharing new ideas and can always give each other new input during team discussions." There is also constant exchange with the Value Stream Managers, Area Leads and the team of trainers on the shop floor, because process optimizations are always coordinated with the colleagues who are using them every day. At the end of the day, Patrick considers himself to be "an intersection between all parties involved in process changes". All the different stakeholders, from the teams on the shop floor to the Finance department, are appropriately informed about changes. The cross-team cooperation works very well. "I think it's really positive that there is a friendly, supportive atmosphere at CEVA Logistics with flat hierarchies."

Prozessoptimierungen durch Hands-on mit analytischer Struktur

Process Engineer
