Contract Logistics (CL) Bootcamp: Transforming Talents for Operational Excellence
In the fast-paced and dynamic world of Contract Logistics, staying ahead of the curve requires not only innovation in services but also a highly skilled and adaptable workforce. Recognizing this need, CEVA Logistics pioneered the Contract Logistics Bootcamps two years ago – a comprehensive training program designed to address critical market challenges and elevate the skills of its engineers to achieve operational excellence.
Excellence in Training – elevating young professionals' skills through training
The primary goal of the bootcamp is clear – to structure a world-class contract logistics training program that attracts, develops, and retains young talent. This program aims to equip aspiring engineers with the competencies required to seamlessly integrate into CEVA's operations.
Antoine Palfray, Global CL Solution Design and the program's creator, emphasizes the need for such initiatives, stating, "I created this program due to an overall lack of Solution Design and Business Process Excellence skills. The pool of potential engineers on the market is too small, and we struggled to fill positions. At the same time, the level of training was inconsistent across our organization. Therefore, the bootcamp is addressing two challenges: building a pipeline of talent and harmonizing training programs."
Excellence in Training – The CL Bootcamp program
The program's core focus is to impart a fundamental understanding of logistics and train engineers on standard CEVA tools that are integral to their daily tasks. The training covers a spectrum of skills, including data crunching, process design, costing, pricing, LEAN, process engineering, KAIZEN and exposure to various departments like Finance, HR, and IT. The curriculum incorporates design thinking, problem-solving techniques, and innovation to develop well-rounded professionals, capable of handling complex challenges.
The bootcamp unfolds in two stages – one-month of classroom training led by CEVA subject matter experts, followed by a one-month practical, on-site training session in the trainees' home locations. This unique approach ensures that the theoretical knowledge gained during the first month is immediately applied in real-world scenarios, reinforcing learning through hands-on experience.
Measurable Success
Since it began in 2021, there have been 10 bootcamps, training over 160 engineers globally. The fast-track integration achieved by bootcamp graduates has led to overall cost savings in employing new professionals. Bootcamp graduates are equipped to be agile, taking on complex Request for Quotations (RFQs) immediately upon completing their training, demonstrating the program's practical and effective nature. Moreover, graduates are able to identify and manage major cost cutting initiatives, increase productivity and improve profitability.
Future Plans: A Model to Replicate
The Contract Logistics Bootcamp has proved so successful that now other departments are considering replicating the concept. The bootcamp adds particular value in its standardized way of working, utilization of CEVA standard tools, and harmonization of Solution Design and Business Process Excellence approaches.
