Building Trust Through Safety

Building Trust Through Safety: CEVA Logistics' Commitment to Employee Well-being

As the world commemorates the UN-backed World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 28, 2024, CEVA Logistics proudly reaffirms its commitment to fostering a workplace where the safety, health and well-being of our employees take center stage. At CEVA Logistics, our people are our most valuable asset, and their safety and health are paramount in everything we do.

We recognize that job seekers desire much more than just employment; they seek an employer they can trust and rely on. This principle guides our approach to workplace safety, where fostering a culture of trust and reliability is as crucial as the implementation of safety protocols on the work floor.

Vision and Commitment to Health and Safety

At CEVA Logistics, we are a people business, where our employees always come first. Our vision is clear: to continuously raise standards and encourage safe behaviors, while adding value to our customers through engaging in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) programs and ensuring high levels of work efficiency. This commitment serves as the cornerstone of our approach to workplace safety.

Collaborating closely with regional HSE managers, our CEVA Logistics global HSE team ensures alignment with global safety standards while maintaining flexibility for local adaptations. Together, global and regional HSE leaders defined a roadmap for working on HSE capabilities and safety performance improvement while enhancing CEVA’s safety culture. Support from CEVA’s Global Headquarters facilitates the implementation of initiatives across regions, enabling knowledge sharing and continuous improvement in safety performance.

Last year marked the start of a new journey aimed at elevating our safety performance to a higher standard of excellence through a phased approach. The first phase established a framework for global safety standards, fostering consistency while respecting local autonomy. Building upon this foundation, the second phase focuses on raising awareness of these standards and enhancing capabilities through initiatives like our Global HSE e-learning program. The final phase is the implementation of a worldwide behavioral safety program, further solidifying our commitment to protecting and empowering our workforce.

CEVA Logistics follows “T.A.L.K” principles, which stand for: TRUST each other, ACT if you see something unsafe, LEARN from mistakes/incidents and KEEP each other safe. This principle guides our approach to safety, ensuring that every regional initiative aligns with our global commitment to fostering a safe and healthy workplace.

Initiatives in Action: Implementing Safety Measures on the Ground

Let's dive into the real-world implementation of CEVA Logistics' health and safety initiatives across the globe. Through firsthand accounts from our regional leaders, we gain insights into how these initiatives are put into practice, their impact on employees and the continuous efforts to foster a safer workplace environment.

Asia Pacific

"In the Asia Pacific region, our commitment to proactive safety has led to significant increases in hazard identification and site inspections. Our 'Safety Champion Awards' initiative recognizes and rewards employees who demonstrate exemplary safety practices, fostering a culture where safety is celebrated," shares Michael Ryan, Deputy Head of HSE Asia Pacific.

Thanks to our efforts and focus on leading safety indicators in the Asia Pacific region, our team achieved a 20% reduction in Lost Time Incidents over the past year, demonstrating the effectiveness of our safety initiatives.

Europe

"In Europe, our focus on safety has started to result in remarkable reductions in lost time incidents and significant improvements in safety culture. We prioritize the well-being of our employees by ensuring all clusters and countries have the right management for QHSE in place, incorporating the global HSE framework across the region in a standardized way" emphasizes Harmen van Brussel, Head of QHSE Europe.

Europe has achieved remarkable milestones in safety. For instance, UK Warrington and Cannock each achieved 10 and 8 years without incidents. Additionally, Venray 3 in Benelux reached 1000 working days without Lost Time Incidents. These achievements underscore the effectiveness of our safety initiatives and highlight our unwavering dedication to fostering a culture of safety excellence.

North America

In North America, our tailored safety initiatives have led to remarkable reductions in safety incidents and foster a culture of responsibility and accountability. Our 'Off the Dock' program aimed at addressing unsafe behaviors with Powered Industrial Trucks (PITs), has yielded impressive results." states Dan Callahan, Head of QHSE North America.

We've seen a significant decrease in unsafe behaviors leading to an 83% reduction in serious PIT-related Near Misses since program implementation, reflecting the effectiveness of our safety measures.

Latin America

"In Latin America, our consistent commitment to workplace safety is evident in the achievement of our safety goals. Our employees use tools like Safety Observation Reports, Planned Inspection Forms, and Behavioral Observation Forms daily to identify any potential operational deviations" emphasizes Marcus Ferreira, Head of QHSE Latin America.

Our initiatives in Latin America have yielded remarkable results. For instance, contracts exceeding 10 years without lost-time accidents demonstrate the tangible success of our safety measures. This remarkable achievement underscores the evolution of our safety culture and reflects our dedication to ensuring the welfare of our employees."

Middle East and Africa

In the Middle East and Africa, our commitment to employee safety and well-being is paramount as we manage large and complex cargo under the Project Logistics  division, maintaining an impeccable safety record. In Qatar, our detailed route analysis and adherence to safety protocols during cargo transportation amid height restrictions underscore our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of our team members” highlighted by Anbu Selvan, QHSE manager for the Middle East and Africa
