FRANKFURT, Germany, 17 March 2008 – CEVA Romania, a subsidiary of CEVA Logistics, one of the leading supply chain companies in the world, began this week the distribution of Pirelli tires from the newly built plant, located in Slatina, 250 km southwest of Bucharest. CEVA is responsible for the warehouse’s planning and supply to Romanian clients. The delivery is complementary to a series of services that CEVA provides to Pirelli, the fifth tire manufacturer in the world in terms of revenue. The initial contract period is three years.
The new Pirelli warehouse was built next to the Pirelli manufacturing plant. CEVA organizes the tires’ stock placement in a surface area of over 16,000 m2, removal and routes the distribution to various countries in Europe and overseas. “The close collaboration with Pirelli in Western Europe began in 1989, so we are very familiar with our client’s needs. When we started the pilot phase, we warehoused 25 different products. Bu now production has increased and the number of articles has multiplied” says Joannis Tsilivarakos, CEVA Implementations Manager.
Currently, the facility is still operated as a Factory Warehouse (FWH) which means that only tires produced in Slatina are put into storage and distributed from there. But the model is about to change. “Since all the articles we must distribute aren’t produced here in Slatina, we still need to incorporate some tires from other storage locations”, remarked Vlad Goran, General Manager of CEVA Logistics Romania. “We’re therefore migrating to a Regional Distribution Warehouse (RDWH) organizational structure”, he concludes.
Pirelli also appears highly satisfied with the quality of the logistics service, which fulfilled their target performance requirements right from the start: “CEVA Logistics’ experience in conceptualizing and implementing complex logistics projects is also apparent in Slatina”, said Christian Mühlhäuser, Pirelli Logistics Quality Manager.
